Final project: Rebranding of a daily object

Our final project has got to be the project I had most fun doing. For this final project, it's divided into 2 parts, which is Part A(individual) and Part B(group). Individually, I'm supposed to produce an A4 individual idea process as well as an A4 proposal report. After that's done, I need to make a packaging of an object given by the lecturers. Students in my class must come up with a group of 5-6 people so that our lecturers are able to assign the object easily. After the lecturers deliberated on who's packing in each group's gets chosen during submission day, it is safe to move on to the group work.

As for group work, group members must come up with an advertisement video of the selected packaging. Initially, each person in class are supposed to make a creative packaging of a certain object that was given by the lecturer in our respective group. For my group, we were given a sponge as our object. Brainstorming and doing my research on sponge packagings was tough but I manage to think of a few designs in the end. After that is all completed, my group must market the product like an actual marketer for our product to seem sellable and worth it to be bought if it was in the market.

For my individual work,  I came up with a few packagings in my report but out of all the packagings I thought of, the packaging that I desired and chose was a gun packaging. How did I come up with the idea? Well, I basically was thinking about how a gun produces a "Bang" sound. The word 'bang' holds almost the same meaning as 'banging' which in an urban language means awesome. I wanted my product to be really banging hence the gun. Although it wasn't really that creative but I thought I could give it a try.

Surprisingly during submission day for our packaging, my packaging got chosen in my group, which happened to be a gun. But during tutorials when I was consulting my lecturer, Miss Ida, apparently another packaging design I proposed in my proposal was the one she chose. Due to the fact my gun packaging didn’t really have anything to do with a sponge, my lime fruit slice packaging I proposed in my proposal got chosen instead.

Since then, my group and I have been working real hard on our packaging that goes by the name of KHLEEN, our advertisement, as well as our booth design. As a group, we modified the way we want to market the packaging. Instead of just a lime packaging, we made it into not just lime but also orange and lemon packaging that comes with a free dishwashing soap according to its packaging flavour. For our booth, we decided to decorate in a way that it represents a fruit orchard because it relates to our fruit packaging. For our advertisement, we came up with an idea where 2 best friends were supposed to have a dinner date to go to but when one of the friend went to meet his bestfriend, he ditched him due to the fact that he had to clean, with "Khleen". We wanted it to be an unexpected yet funny advertisement. We also got the idea from an advertisement we encountered on youtube. We filmed at our campus' Block C, Level 9 office at 12 in the morning because we didn't want any disturbance as well as noise to be polluted in our video. We all stayed up all night in the classroom to finish it all and we had to sacrifice our sleep for this. But I have no complain about preparing everything before submission day because it was really fun. My group mates and I got closer as we all bonded slowly.

We made our own fruit crates, trees, and a cashier. We decorated our booth with cut out trees, red checkered table cloth that is surrounded with vines, and also paper bags at the corner of the table. We wanted to represent a cashier stand in a fruit orchard.

On submission day, all of us gathered at LT 21 at 8 in the morning to set up the booth and to put up the poster. After that was done, it was show time. We were the last second group to present and market, and my group mates chose me as the person to market the product. Because of the long wait until our turn, I definitely had butterflies in my tummy. I rehearsed a few key lines that needed to be said when I was going to market until I was satisfied. When it was our turn, I said the things I rehearsed and added a few words. It was very impromptu and I tried to connect with the lecturers and my course mates since they are in a way my clients at that moment.

Overall, it was a fun assignment and I’m glad my lecturers were happy with our work and the way we marketed our product. Our lecturers gave us good feedbacks and also a few advises we could learn from. This assignment also made me feel less shy of a person as I now can finally be myself when I'm with my group mates or my course mates in general. This is due to the fact that almost every one was staying up until the a.m.'s in block E to finish up their booth designs and whatnot, and everyone visits each other's classroom just to say hi and check out each other's progress. I couldn't have been more sociable without the help of this assignment.
