My first English assignment was actually a really fun and laid-back assignment. Our English lecturer Miss Cassandra decided to give us a task to do, which was to write a compare and contrast essay based on a movie genre. It was either to write about 2 disaster movies or 2 science-fiction movies. The amount of words that my class is supposed to write is between 600-1000 words.

For a movie junkie like me, I chose the genre - science-fiction. I chose science-fiction because I enjoyed the thrill of that movie genre, especially how it always successfully make me feel like I am in another dimension. Long story short, I selected the movie Divergent, as well as The Hunger Games. I know it is pretty predictable and mainstream, but I would rather write about a movie I am most knowledgable in rather than a movie that I still have doubts about. I personally am a fan of both novel-based movies, and watching the movies again for this project was the highlight of it all.

All in all, I feel that finishing this assignment improved the way I view movies and improved the way I elaborate my sentences. I actually enjoyed wrapping up this assignment due to the fact that I poured out my views on these two movies that I came to love. This is actually my first time writing an essay that is about 1000 words long, and needless to say I felt satisfied at the flow of my essay. It may not be perfect or excellent, but I'm sure that my writing improved drastically compared to the easy essays I wrote in preparation for my SPM examinations. I would like to express my gratitude to my lecturer, Miss Cassandra for her guidance in order to assure that her students are on the right track.
